They're by no means useless, but I agree - if they moved a bit faster and attempted to circle around the flagship, they'd both be more useful as there'd be at least one in range of whatever you wanted to shoot, and they'd absorb some incoming hostile fire. |

Deployed ships should probably just fight on their own independently (except perhaps for specialized types like the Sharpshooter), including control of their own weapons. Given that they tend to fly off everywhere on their own and the thing you want them to shoot isn't necessarily the same as the thing you want to shoot personally, I don't really see the point of slaving their weapons to yours. |
