Summary | 0013587: Confirming actions is far too fiddly... and inconsistent!
Description | I think that the controls for this game should be far simpler than they actually are. Personally, I would like some discussion on stripping out the confirmation requirements entirely. For example, instead of requesting confirmation of autofire, it should simply proceed to the firing phase without requiring the player to press the A key – incidentally, this is how it works at the moment for “fire at the exact point” (it doesn't request a confirmation). No confirmations would work perfectly for “autofire”, “fire at exact point”, “hold fire”, and “fire at an angle from your ship”. Actually, two of these already behave this way, which makes things weird and inconsistent. The only one I can see people wanting a confirmation for is “fire at selected ships”. Personally, I think that confirmations should be stripped out of this, too, and the “fire at selected ship” action should commence once the shift key has been released (as long as at least one ship is currently targeted). This A,S,Q etc to confirm is driving me up the wall. Failing streamlining the controls and stripping out the confirmations I would prefer a global (and consistent) confirmation button, or right click.

Since it remembers the last mode you were in, if we did no confirmation on autofire, then it would just always autofire and you would never have a chance to not do that. Or we'd have to dump you into some other mode and you would have to hit the autofire button anyway. As it stands: 1. Click to direct attack just requires a click, no confirm. 2. Click to attack an angle is being removed. 3. Attack selected target requires a single click to do one target, or shift click plus various targets to target many. Then you can hit the hotkey again, or just click anywhere. 4. Autofire requires either a click anywhere, or the hotkey again. 5. Hold fire requires either a click anywhere, or the hotkey again. Same note applies to hold fire as does to autofire. I really don't think there's any other way to do this. |

Alright. I really do dislike how fiddly and inconsistent it seems to be to me, though. I'll think on it, and see if I can come up with a solution or some tweaks. Thanks. |
