Summary0013638: Multiplayer Desync Error
DescriptionMe and my Friend (Efelix) have been suffering a Multiplayer Desync error.
I (Sliprunner) am host for this and Efelix is the one that Desync's.
We had one prior game that worked fine, sense then we have had nothing but desync.
We have both tried full restart of AI wars yet the problem remains.
It has rendered Me and Efelix unable to play multiplayer at the given time.
The Desync usually occurs after 5-10 minutes.

I was operating as a Champion and had just gained level 2.
Efelix was operating as a Normal player.
Efelix had just launching a fleet through a wormhole when desync occurred.
We were the only 2 players in the game.

I loaded the save in multiplayer and ran it for several minutes (putting Efelix's fleet on FRD to cleanse that AI planet, building some FRD ships on the homeworld to hold off that wave, etc) and no desync occurred. And unless I can reproduce the problem it's generally not something I can fix.

It may be that some of the stuff changed in 7.017 fixed the cause of the desync, or that some of the stuff I've changed for 7.018 (not publicly available yet) did so. I'm planning to release 7.018 on Monday sometime before noon. It would be helpful if, after that point, you could:

1) Update to 7.018
2) In settings, on the host, set the "autosave every X minutes" thing to 1, and check "Don't overwrite previous autosaves" (just for diagnostic purposes, I know that's a bit much for normal usage)
3) Load the save attached to this report, in multiplayer.
4) Play normally.
5) If there's a desync:
- please make copies of the last two autosaves before that moment
- type out what commands the two of you had been giving to the game (or any other interactions, like changing settings or controls or whatever) in the moments before the desync
- load the most recent autosave and try to do those same things again, and see if it results in a desync again
6) Post your findings here along with those last two autosaves (if there was a desync, otherwise just let me know there wasn't one) so I can take another look.

Also, a few other questions, which are relevant even before the 7.018 test:
- did Sliprunner have advanced logging on?
- did Sliprunner have reinforcement logging on?
- did Efelix have advanced logging on?
- did Efelix have reinforcement logging on?

None of that is allowed to cause a desync, of course, just asking for diagnosis. I'm pretty careful with the logging code but I recall at least one past situation where I'd done something in it that led to a desync if one player had the logging on and the other did not.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for the help :)
