Summary | 0014410: Tutorial mini-campaign and/or goals checklist a la AI Wars
Description | I have just got and started the game, and I'm quite lost---I really have no idea what I should be trying to do, and specifically how to set medium-term goals. I think the current tutorials are doing their job well enough---I feel like I'm learning to take certain actions---but I don't feel like I'm learning how to set goals or recognize what problems and opportunities are. This is also a problem for a lot of new AI Wars players, but I think it's worse here---there's nothing akin to conquering planets or building strong defenses that obviously leads to my final goals, and I can't tell whether I should be picking a few favorite allies and trying to make them as strong as possible, or standing on the sidelines and trying to keep parity between the various races. I wonder if it would be possible, therefore, to implement two things from AI Wars that help a lot with this problem: First, and very simple, is the list of suggested goals included in the game, which maps out the broad outlines of how you get from start to end---scout, take a few worlds, find some ARS's and/or advanced factories, take those, and then start hopping to the homeworlds. Having a checklist like that would help a lot to give a new player (like me) some achievable short-range goals and get us to start playing with and learning the system. Second, and more ambitious, would be a version of AI War's tutorial micro campaign, a few pre-set scenarios that walk you through the process of setting a goal, recognizing what the obstacles are that stop you from accomplishing it, and then dealing with them. Based on descriptions of the game, I imagine these would be things like "get the Burlusts to do something for you," "stop the Thoraxians from wiping out your allies," or "make peace between X and Y." But I don't really know if those are reasonable---that's my problem.
