Summary | 0014781: No incentive to do "Quest 1 Race Military has a secret proposal to gain spacefaring technology"
Description | If you do the quest, you can get "hydral tech" and I presume negative rep for blockade ships killed. -5 rep if quest 2 or neither quest completed. Accounting for the new "deliver space faring tech" mission having it's difficulty removed and its reputation loss reflecting your being detected by individual races instead of a complex formula; Quest 1 now has zero incentive to do it. AFAIK(or can tell) by doing it you are cursing yourself to -5000 credits and missing out on the bonus rep for the terraforming quest. I propose tweaking quest 1 to add a few unorthodox advantages to accepting it. Ideas: up to 500 leverage with each warlord if burlust, up to 30 voting proxies if peltian. The amount could be based on how many other space faring races there are. For the other 6 races the one with whom the mission is being taken with receives between +/- to their attitude towards the other space faring races. The calculation being based on how they feel about that race and reflecting their having "pulled the wool over those races 'eyes'". Example: If won: 1. +50 influence with <RACE 1> 2. If all enemy flagships killed gain a hydral tech and a bribe item. 3. <RACE 1> will become spacefaring For each spacefaring race(other than burlust and peltian covered above), <RACE 1>'s attitude towards them will change based on what it currently is, if it is currently below -10 it will rise by +10, if it is above +10 it will fall by 10. You could say that <RACE 1> "thought more of the other race" in cased of a fall in their attitude and where it increased they could be "we did it without you". The second "reason" needs work I admit. Alternatively just some kind of mutual normalising of all the spacefaring( again excluding burlusts and peltians) races relationships with <RACE 1> Let me know if I have made a mistake(particularly in flagging as major), but in my most recent game I cannot see reason not to take the +80 rep in quest 2. Since previously the advantage was to trade up the 5000 credits for avoiding the "helped others become spacefaring" penalty.

Upon writing this I did not realise the "if caught" penalties were unchanged, that aside I still don't see much incentive. Also, in my normal/normal game today (1.006) I didnt get caught 7 times. |

This has been fixed by having the other spacefaring missions now be an actual appropriate challenge (in terms of influence loss risks, not combat prowess). Thanks! :) |
