Summary | 0015170: Relations Buildings completely pointless...
Description | Most buildings are now Zero Sum (or considerably worse, if the race "likes" the building, since it doesn't increase relations with themselves). You want me to spend 40 months building something that hurts me AT LEAST as much as it helps? o.0 You don't think very highly of my intelligence do you? I'm hurt ::pouty face:: :( In all seriousness, they are only useful IF: 1) you destroy the race(s) they have negatives for and then use them to unite the remaing races. But this is fairly pointless, since if you're going to destroy the race, you have MUCH better means of making the rest of the universe happy with each other than wasting 40 months creating a VERY slow trickle of improvement towards a race or two... 2) You want to create a relation that HAPPENS to match one (or a combination) of the buildings (which is stupid, and unfair, as it basically penalizes the player for not doing what the developers want, which is stupid and unfair ;) And since the buildings don't have enough variety to make that possible for any/all combinations, the developers are basically saying "Here, if you spend alot of time making the game progress the way we think it should, you get a lolipop..." Which, needless to say, makes me laugh really hard at said silly developers, and reply "Orrr... I can completely ignore your silly buildings with their rigid ideas and play the game the way I want..." Long and short of it: The only times the buildings would be even close to worth the effort of building, they are more like an exploit than a feature...

For instance, ALL Burlust buildings have a net value that is negative or zero... o.0 So unless you want the Burlust to be hated by SOMEONE at least, you're going to have to kill off a race. And since there are MUCH better ways to get people to hate the burlust than spending 40 months doing construction work then years of waiting around for the effect to accumulate... Grand Total (one of each building): -1.32 Arms Dealer -0.36 Confectionary -0.18 Gladitorial Arena -0.36 HC: Adventure -0.18 HC: Family Stories 0.00 HC: Inappropriate -0.06 HC: Reality -0.18 HC: Sports 0.00 Sum of all Burlust buildings by race: Acutians 0.72 Andor -0.54 Boarine -0.18 Burlust 0 Evuck -0.36 Peltian 0.3 Skylaxian -0.9 Thoraxian -0.36 So the Burlust can get the Acutians to love them (actually NONE of the buildings the Burlust can build can generate negative rep with the Acutians, so CAN'T get them to hate even if you wanted...) the Peltians (?.?) and the Thoraxians? On a related note, the ONLY way to get the Thoraxians to like you now is to throw the Andor and Peltians under the bus - but you'll get the Boarines to like you as well... Basically it's convoluted, generally unhelpful and often down right horrible, and requires a huge strategic investment... Does this make sense? |

The current system does make it hard to create a fed with all races and also some specific race combinations, so i agree some changes need to be made. However i dont think they need a buff i find them quite overpowered in scenarios when the player wants to create a 3 race federation (build a few building on each planet early wait a few solar years = profit). I agree they need to be altered but buffing them shouldnt be the answer. |
There's just not enough ways to start the federation outside influence grinds. More "strong federation, safety federation" type options that let the player actively peruse an alternate and deliberate strategy in order to form the federation with less grind. Now you don't even get a cash bonus when using goons, so trying to build an influence building on someones planet without being pulled out of solar control for 40 months for EACH ONE on EACH PLANET, for EACH RACE you want to build relations for is expensive and annoying. |
Ok, ok - in all fairness, with some production tech and a few production stations, you can get that 40 months down to about 10 each. OR you can spend 2 months colonizing a moon, then 2 months creating a trade route, and have a net positive gain BOTH ways, AND increase their resources, AND get MORE reps gains when you have the Andor Trade Faction make their routes explode... |
You've got a point there, but relation buildings are also something you'd tend to want to rush to build sooner rather than later since they're the foundation of cross race relations now, which takes 40 months a pop. Andor Trade Faction is also super exploitable right now and can get you 500+ relation between people and a formed federation in like 1-2 years if used that way. But no I'm afraid I think it's more fundamental than that, GC13 hinted at it in another thread, but the flow of the game has to be fixed. There were band-aids placed over people beating the game quickly, like the big boost to influence requirements and then the MASSIVE cost increase of federation voting in another patch. These changes haven't slowed down the time it takes to beat a game much at all for me, all they've done is make the ride less interesting because I have no reason to see anything past year 40 or so. Heck as long as the Peltians aren't dead you can always take over the solar system at the drop of a hat. |
