Summary | 0015331: Newly spacefaring races start with comparatively high armada scores
Description | When a race becomes spacefaring, it immediately starts with a certain quality of planetary defense armadas. However, the automatically-generated armadas are currently extremely powerful compared to the speed at which early-game races can build armadas normally. Once the "free" armadas are worn down by wars, player action, or random events, things even out, but until all races have become spacefaring, inevitably the most recent race to join the spacefaring league is militarily dominant. I typically see a new race start with an armada power in the 600-900 range at a time when races spend many months with 0 armada strength after losing ships in a war and can only build up to 30-60 strength when new defenders are eventually launched. A side-effect is that the player usually doesn't need to worry about hatred from the first race... because the first race usually dies in the first war. The starting race will spend several years of in-game time getting to the point of replacing the flagships the player destroys in the first mission, while every other race will get a much larger fleet for free. The first race's "head start" into space turns out to be the opposite.
