Summary0015434: Simplify the upgrading of selected / all units that have templates
Description Applying the template to selection is good, but it is also gated behind the ship design menu, making it a complicated procedure to upgrade everything, especially if they are spread out across different planets (FALLEN SPIRE). In all the years of playing, I have *never* built an under-equipped ship because of this annoying upgrade procedure (or zooming in to delete individual modules from modular ships), and I tolerate it in spire cities because I have to.

I would highly desire a one-click method for players to upgrade their modules to the latest mark, assuming that the current slot can fit the improved modules:
- spire capitals
- champions
- modular fortresses

There are three ways I suggest:

Simple way: a single button to issue in-place upgrades. This button would go next to the play/stop (power up/down) and the give buttons, and receive a key-shortcut, say U (done in Homeworld: Cataclysm to issue commands to upgrade as you research them). Alternatively, one could put it onto the ship design menu - "apply to all ships of template".

Intermediate way: another button next to "upgrade" to strip all modules from a ship. This is blatantly unnecessary, e.g., when you only want to switch your lasers to MLRS modules. It is, however, an option, and frees up the default build menu on, e.g., spire reactors, for upgrading. Alternatively, have the built modules show up on the build menu so that players can click on them to remove them without having to zoom in.

Complex way: transfer the template-based build menus to onto the ships. E.g. A spire city builds a cruiser of template X. Once built, the ship currently has a build menu for the individual modules. I would propose replacing it or adding a template menu that also has the existing templates. Clicking on that template will re-decorate the cruiser with the relevant modules.
Come to think of it, The Last Federation could use a set of templates too to switch your flagships.

Once this is done, it may be tenable to think about making other things modular, or modifying riot starships to be consistent with the later modular designs.
