Summary0015693: Differently broken fullscreen in OSX
DescriptionThanks for the quick response on 0015689. Unfortunately, fullscreen is now completely broken for me.

The game seems to cycle through various screen resolutions and then give up and run in a wide-but-short window that doesn't accept mouse input until resized.

In case it matters, I'm running the game on an 11" Macbook Air (MacBookAir6,1) which has an "Intel HD Graphics 5000" GPU.

Okay, this is strange. After plugging in my external display, 8.001's fullscreen behaves like 8.000's, even when I unplug my external display again.

Can you restart Steam? There was a version of 8.001 that was borked on there on the beta branch, which you might be on. But if you restart, it should get you to the proper one.

FullscreenWindowWithDockAndMenuBar was mistakenly set, previously.
CaptureDisplay is what made the screen go cycling like nuts, and just generally be crazy.
FullscreenWindow is what makes it act sane, and is what all our other games use for the OSX fullscreen mode.

How did you get the 8.001 update? Through steam or through our in-game updater?

I updated through Steam. I must have had the broken beta version first, followed by the other one, which is what caused the change in behaviour.

FullscreenWindow still seems to give my the menubar popup (which is incorrect according to the documentation) but not the dock. The bigger problem is that all the usual workspace switching keybindings (which I have set to ctrl+<number>) are still active, which means I get pulled out of the game instead of putting ships in a control group.

I think CaptureDisplay is the appropriate fullscreen mode (assuming it can be made to work) for a game like AI War. I suspect Bionic Dues (which I usually play in a window anyway) and The Last Federation work in the cheap plastic imitation fullscreen mode OSX 10.7+ provides because they have much simpler controls.

Okay, that makes sense then -- thanks for the confirmation on that.

I'm glad that the dock is behaving properly now.

I'm sorry to hear about the menu bar and the shortcuts and whatnot, but unfortunately CaptureDisplay just frankly does not work. You saw how that was with the broken beta version -- the only difference between that broken one and the new one that works is having CaptureDisplay on. :/

Hopefully there is some way on OSX to temporarily disable shortcuts or something, but I don't know what it is. I imagine that some other games have also run into this, so maybe there is a third party tool that aids in suppression. :/

It seems the menubar only appears if I'm using my external display, so I'm inclined to blame Apple for that.
