Summary | 0016117: Expansion/replayability ideas: Variable planet number and race options. | ||||
Description | One thing that keeps me from playing the game more often is that the solar system seems very similar between games. A huge amount of replayability would be added if there were new game setup options. These might have more place as a 5$ expansion than as free features. 1. Set the number of total planets in the system. 2. Empty planets can be colonized by spacefaring races (at a huge cost), or as part of a mission with the player. 3. Make the procedural seed for the system layout visible like in AI war, so the same planet layout can be recreated across different games. 4. Add a few other options related to map setup (# of moons, starting pirate density, etc) 5. Have the option to begin a game with fewer than the regular number of races (# minimum?). "Want to play a game without the Thoraxians? Go ahead!" 6. Choose how many planets each race begins with. Combined with options 1 and 5: "Want to try a game where the Thoraxians begin as spacefaring and already own 6 planets? Good luck!" 7. Finally, if all the previous options are implemented, you could add the ability to have multiple factions of the same race. For example, you could start with one extra planet which is inhabited by an extra Acutian race such as the "Beta Acutians" or likewise. So you could try a game with 10 independent factions of Thoraxians or likewise. I think these ideas would give the game a grander scale and a huge amount of new possibilities for play.
