Summary0016479: Barracks should be able to attack to Sea Ports adjacent to shore
DescriptionBarracks should be able to attack water buildings that are adjacent to land.

I have some Acutians that are moving in on me using sea ports. As the Boarines, my helipads are underperforming. However my land troops aren't able to get to them.

The save also demonstrates what happens when you get infected by 6 or so diseases (which I've picked up by being attacked by the Krolim), and it features the oddities of combat reporting, who attacks, who intercepts, etc which are described in other mantis entries.)

Mulling this in the latest version. I'm not sure if this should be a case where the ground troops from the barracks (in the revised save I uploaded so that power is back on) should be able to attack whatever in the adjacent territory and just fire their shots across the water, or if they should be prevented from that.

To some extent that does preserve some differentiation of forces in a good way to not let them do that...

I think not allowing them to do that. Helicopter for sure should be able too, but not ground forces in my opinion

I'm neutral on that issue myself. The "lore" suggest that teleporting is the "main" transportation method used. It would therefore make sense to say that the seaport does not have a ramp access to get in the seaport and bomb the place to rubble (shooting it from afar does not sound that effective to me, maybe with rocket launchers it would be better ?).

From a gameplay point of view, it would "force" me to place all sea buildings at least "one" case apart from the water once I know of that issue, and eventually I'd push for the AI to follow this rule to. That would make the sea "smaller", but I don't see where it would add something to the game apart from being a "noob trap".

From the "barracks" point of view, it's actually bad for them because it removes some of their usefulness. But it opens other things, as it would make "barracks" oriented races vulnerable to sea assaults. That "could" open the way to a "paper scissors rocks" balance of military building.

Or maybe we could include a new military called "marines" as a high level "barracks" type which could go on water but use the "melee" bonus to attack type.
