Summary0001666: Auto updater does not pick up all expansions
DescriptionI just bought all 3 expansions for AI war, and when I hit the "Update" button in the main menu only the Light of the Spire add-on was downloaded.

I now have a slot to enter the serial number for that add-on in the license menu, but the first two addons have not changed there.

The purchase notes state that I should automatically pick up all of the new add-ons, so I'd expect them to be downloaded as well.

Sorry, I'll need to correct the purchase notes -- the only reason even LotS was downloaded is that it is still in beta. Normally you have to download and install the expansions separately, from their respective download pages:

http://www.arcengames.com/aiwar_zenithremnant.php#download

http://www.arcengames.com/aiwar_childrenofneinzul.php#download

Can you tell me where it was you saw the old instructions? I thought I had got all those, but evidently not. Thanks!

When I did a reinstall of AI War a while back, I had the same confusion and couldn't figure out why the game wouldn't let me enter the ZR and CoN serial nums. (Eventually I figured it out.) But Seeing this gave me an idea...

Suggestion: Make it work like Symmetric thought: Allow players to enter the expansion serial numbers and then automagically install and update the expansion packs from that instead of requiring a separate download.

Unfortunately, we can no longer do that as a direct download through the game as it means we have to pay directly for the bandwidth, and that was starting to cost us way more than we can afford (hundreds of dollars per month). Having the downloads as separate installers is easier for most users to deal with in the first place (assuming the instructions they see are correct), and it lets us use mirrors that are cost-free.

Wow, I didn't realize that. Do all those beta release updates cost you guys big bandwidth bucks, too?

At the moment I'm able to run those through the Arcen main site bandwidth, where we have 500GB of transfer available and weren't using all of it. On the Amazon S3 side we were using a TB or more of data per month, so I switched to using more mirrors there (without the ability to do direct download links with most), as well as using MediaFire since it is slightly cheaper on the direct downloads.

So... in short at the moment we're not really paying anything extra for the downloads of the beta updates, as they are small enough that it's only a few hundred GB of transfer per month at the moment. But if we go over about 300GB, I'll have to start doing them from MediaFire as well for the spillage, and that will cost some -- but it takes about 50-100 downloads of a beta update to equal a single download of the full game of Tidalis, for example, so the scale is super different.

Note that this was a few TB per month when we were ALREADY serving well under 0.01% of the downloads thanks to numerous mirrors and the fact that Steam and Impulse combined deliver the files for about 85% of our customers. That's some serious bandwidth usage per month that I don't even want to consider, it's got to be thousands of TB in aggregate. :)

Ah, the old instructions were only in the Zenith Remnant confirmation email. Now that I've checked the others, it turns out that the rest of them do not mention the auto-updater.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion :)

Found it and fixed the instructions -- thanks! :)
