Summary | 0016918: Integrate the event log into the main HUD?
Description | One major complaint that is apparently shared by many players is how disconnected the player feels from what is happening on the rest of the planet. Some information with regard to this is available in form of the event log, though. So what do you think about integrating a (hideable!), scrollable text edit to the main HUD, e.g. on docked to the right edge of the screen, that shows all or some entries from the event log. Given some time this could become a really powerful tool for the player. I imagine the main HUD kinda like the executive console of the leader while he tries to steer the fate of his people - there just has to be some kind of newsfeed, right ;)? Plus this might help to ease the disconnect between player and world - potentially without major effort.

One of the things I like about Crusader Kings II is that it has a very flexible event notification system with multiple levels of alert. You have popup-window-and-pause-game for things like declarations of war, two levels of things-shown-on-screen (these each only show one thing at a time, but you can scroll through them and dismiss events individually or by type), and the firehose event log that catches everything that happens anywhere ("The Count of Hedmark has agreed to marry his daughter to the Duke of Mecklenburg"). This is massive overkill for SBR's needs, but I would like an easily accessible (and preferably filterable) event stream at a level between the icons on right and the current event log. Not everyone cares about the same things, and what the player cares about may change over the course of the game. The filtering mechanism should err on the side of simplicity, though. CK2's system is terrifying in its comprehensiveness: Every game event notification has metadata that includes event type and participants. Then there's a big matrix of event type (marriage, death, vassalage, war, etc.) and level of relationship of the participants (you, person of interest, close family, distant family, random stranger, etc.) and for each combination you can set the level of alert you want (popup, important notification, unimportant notification, event log, etc. along with whether to pause the game) for matching events. The defaults are fairly reasonable, but you can really tune exactly what information you care about. The most common outcome of attempting this is that you get flooded with spam and miss the fact that your brother in law is plotting to murder your heir and usurp his duchy. |

For 0.904 (just noting this on the related records) : * Natural wonders no longer give adjacency bonuses. Thanks :) |

Actually I'm not sure why this mantis record was on the list for the natural wonders change. But we also removed the event log, so that works ;) |
