Summary | 0017478: Steam overlay pops up (sometimes)
Description | The steam overlay defaults to shift + tab. While playing SBR, I've had the overlay pop up 3 times now when I've pressed shift (to name territories). However, I can't reliably reproduce this. Adding this issue so that we can have more eyes and brains on finding out what is going on.

Definitely something I'd like to hear more about. I can't control the steam overlay the way that we're hooked into it (although we theoretically could). There's definitely no code of ours that calls into the overlay in that fashion, though. |
|
This is still happening to me occasionally. It just happened when I was queuing research up. Anyone else seeing this? |
|
Yes I had it pop up a couple of times as well. I guess the more you play the more of a chance you get to have it pop up, especialy as you become more fluent in the game controls. I also can't reproduce this though... |

Does this occur after alt tabbing? Due to the way most games are coded they will still sometimes consider the alt/tab keys pressed down if you come back in via non-keyboard commands (If you do it via keyboard then the release keys are registered and you don't run into this problem). Most reliable replication: Hold alt, hit tab and release, release alt. Click back into game, hit shift. Overlay pops back up if you hit shift. Sometimes had to hit shift twice. Tested this on the main menu and in a created game. Does not occur 100% of the time, and sometimes the behavior will differ as well. However this has a high replication rate so should be easy to do whatever you need to do. Sometimes pressing shift then releasing it will make the overlay come up then go away once shift is released. Other times you have to press shift twice before it decides that you are good enough to see the beloved steam overlay. |

Yep. That's it. |
|
Ah! That would make some sense, then. I'll have to see if there's a way that I can force unity to completely wipe out its key commands on reload. Though to be frank, I'm not sure if this is a steam overlay bug itself. The steam overlay catches its own commands and hooks into any program you want (not just games with hooks into it). Can you try that with some game by some other developer (doesn't matter what), and see if it happens? If so, that's one for the steam technical support forums. |

I couldn't replicate this in AI war, although I only tried a few times. The keystick issue on alt-tab has been a common thing among games though. |
