Summary0017910: Lower stats to make room for stat upgrades
DescriptionIn most rogue-lites, you start out in a position where you *could* beat the game with base stats, but it'd be really really hard. Upgrades are a way to climb that ladder and make it more reasonable, and they also allow for random variety: you may end up being slow but with high damage, high hp but fast, etc. The key thing is that the starting point needs to be low enough to allow for random stat upgrades to have a good effect without taking skill out of the equation.

Just wanted to make sure that this is being considered, as starting stats, including speed, shot speed, shot damage, and shot range all seem very high with the default ship.

Coming back to this as I still feel like it's a serious issue. I have no trouble taking out most enemies except bosses with just my main attacks, which are both fast and have long range.

I definitely agree with you as this also brings up an earlier point about how current upgrades feel too little and provide minimal impact on the game. It will pretty much come down to a matter of, do we nerf the player, or buff the enemies?

I'd vote buffing enemies, and not in terms of hp, nerfing player or buffing enemy hp would just bring "takes too long to destroy X" situations, the only thing thats worth nerfing on player is shield as last version i've played had it too OP and made game alot more fun once i've switched to Archer ship.(Haven't tried 0.204 yet)

We've updated a ton of stuff to make the enemies scale up, and the items are rebalanced like 10 times since this post, etc. So you don't start out pathetic, but you definitely feel the upgrades now. Your point was well taken. :)
