Summary0020412: 7/7/7 Difficulty Run, AI budget is too powerful
DescriptionI'm not certain how to describe this one, exactly. On my 7/7/7 run, I mentioned in Discord that I was getting curbstomped. My save was requested, and quickly diagnosed as having a much more powerful AI than it should. I'm not certain of the details, but evidently waves are too powerful, the AI is putting out way more guardians than it should, and otherwise I am up against odds far greater than what 7/7/7 is actually supposed to bring to the table. I am posting my budget log from several hours of play, as requested.

This was the save provided in Discord last night. It has two waves to the same planet, same timing. When they arrive, it says on the right there are three waves instead, and indeed, one wave is duplicated. There will be 21 Fragmenting Guardians mentioned, but there will then be 42 of them.

Guardians are also dominating the ship count - I've had them be 1.5 Guardians for every 1 Fleetship.

Tried running numerous traces on that save, waiting for hours but...nothing. I never get a single double/triple wave. Not even my own games have those. That third wave especially doesn't show up in anything at all, it just magically appears for free.

AI is Vanilla.

(I don't want to send a separate email for...something so minor - it's been noticed that Gryn, Void Home doesn't have the dome around the city anymore. It shows up in the Profile screen but nowhere else, and it was said to ask you? This is really really minor - barely anyone (2 people including myself) noticed it and anyone who did before now hasn't said a thing.)

The double wave is due to a bug of some sort. I dispute the claim that the AI is too powerful though. I built some extra turrets and moved my fleet to the planet under threat and had no trouble defeating that double wave

I find myself agreeing with Badger. I believe my getting curbstomped was primarily due to my being a newbie than some sort of bizarre bug on the back-end, I am simply passing on what I was told when the save was inspected on Discord. I have since managed to come up with a decent strategy and the AI immediately seemed to become more reasonable to deal with. If there is a balance issue it somehow only affected the first hour or so, or I managed to get used to it.

The double wave is somehow the AI having the same wave in the list twice, I suspect. I'm not sure how that happened, but we should be able to filter that out. I'll get to that part within the next day.

I increased Guardian strength values anyway - it was using only automatic calculation, which does not consider the damage multipliers. Temperamental and Fragmenting desperately needed that...

I admit I was mostly wrong on the AI part. I loaded it and seeing triple waves with dozens of Fragmenting Guardians...yeah. When it's not doing things like that it's alright.

Ah, okay. I'll hold off on smiting the guardians then. You took out Fragmenting from the list of normal guardians allowed in waves, right?

Yes. In testing earlier today they do not show up.

However, my change only means less spawn. It's possibly still allocating the same amount of strength to Guardians, just not affording as many now.

Add a per-difficulty "Percent Wave Strength that's allowed to be Guardians" tunable, which right caps out at 45% for difficulty 10
