Summary | 0021502: Improving description of CPA alert icon
Description | The current CPA alert is completely opaque as to what the nature and the scale of the attack might be. Issues with the current description are: (A) It does not describe anything about its mechanics. (B) It is most definitely not massive at low AIP, even at Difficulty 7. THE ??? doesn't tell players much about how much they should worry. (C) Calling it an attack is technically incorrect. The AI will not attack the player unless it's confident that the released threat is sufficient. Example save attached at late game. Spawned CPA is irrelevant given player power and practice at neutering planets. = = = = Suggestions (assuming it's AIWC mechanics): 1. Describe CPA notification thusly: "In 4m 37s, the AI will activate a part of its reserves throughout the galaxy to respond to threats. Many of these reserves are currently stationed at guardposts on AI-controlled planets." 2. Try to estimate the strength that will be activated based on current AIP, and then put this estimated figure on the alert icon instead of "???".

Far as I know it does not use Classic mechanics. It is a budget that is added to over time (everything of the AI is I think), and it's a new spawn of ships, rather than a draft. Because of that, and the AI budget income changing with AIP, the AIP you have when it launches doesn't mean too much compared to the AIP during the build up phase, if this makes sense. |

Ok TIL. Would there be a way to give an estimate though? Or is this undesirable, i.e. players are meant to guess how safe it is by rote learning. Well, maybe CPA are generally too weak. This would require more feedback from other players. |
|
I'd imagine so, seeing as waves use the same mechanic and they tell you. But that's not my area. |

Nope, no estimate. Uncertainty is part of the design of CPAs (unless Chris wants to overule me), and also there's no good way to give such an estimate based on how the code is written. I did fix a bug that should be a nice buff to CPAs, especially at higher AIP. |

It looks like this got fixed at some point in the last few months. The CPA hovertext description is now much clearer |
