Summary | 0021544: Marauders Gameplay -- Special raids against the HW | ||||
Description | Background/problem: In the late game, player HW becomes far less relevant until some game-ending scenario (e.g. dark spire) occurs. Fix: Raids targeted against players HW at infrequent intervals can forces players to react accordingly. (i.e., special waves, but with appropriate notification, along the lines of the wormhole invasion; direct attacks against the HW should always have a notification) Implementation: The Marauder faction already specializes in off the warp-grid raids against everything, so they fit this niche elegantly. As a basic idea, the existence of mark 3 marauder bases in the galaxy contributes to special raiding-waves against players' HWs. The units should probably reflect the vicious raiders composition To give players more agency, I would link the power (budget) of the waves to scale with the number of bases in the galaxy. This would make ignoring them a risky strategy | ||||

I wonder if something like this should just be a new sub-faction of the AI, like the new Praetorean Guard? That way the threat of this is always there, even if you don't have marauders on. Some form of this, anyway. |

Well, Wormhole Invasions are kinda like this, but players really really hated that they could land on or adjacent to your homeworld, so they are now limited to how close they can appear to the player homeworld based on the AI DIfficulty |
