Description | Hello, After completing a hack on a Dyson Sphere freed from the AI (by destroying the AI command post), the Dyson Sphere becomes an Antagonized Dyson Sphere and attacks the player. However, the Antagonized Dyson Sphere units appear to have a number of faction diplomacy bugs. 1. The Antagonized Dyson units are colored as if they belong to the AI faction. 2. The Antagonized Dyson units do not attack the AI, even if the AI command post is destroyed and the un-antagonized Dyson units were previously attacking the AI. 3. The Antagonized Dyson units are hostile to the un-antagonized Dyson units and attack each other. Steps to reproduce: 1. Kill the AI Command Center to free Dyson Sphere (making Dyson Sphere Allied to Player) 2. Allow Allied Dyson Sphere to spawn player-friendly units that attack the AI 3. Begin Hack on Dyson Sphere (friendly Dyson units now attack a player) 4. Complete Hack on Dyson Sphere (antagonized Dyson Sphere spawns units that are AI-friendly and attack the un-antagonized Dyson units I included a save from when I started the Dyson Sphere hack. In my game, the Praetorian Guard showed up half-way through the hack to attack the normal Dyson units. | ||||

Really? Even the Dyson attacking it's own units? That seems counter-intuitive to me from both a lore and a gameplay perspective. I trust you if it's working as designed. :-) |

The Antagonized Dyson sphere is essentially the Dyson As Controlled by the AI. That's why they take on the AI's colours and just try to kill you. And why the AI no longer fights the Antagonized Dyson. From a Lore point of view, the regular Dyson Sphere ships see their brethren taken over by the AI, and they don't like that. From a mechanical point of view, lets imagine a case where the player has Allied Dyson Sphere ships wandering all over their territory and the AI builds a Dyson Antagonizer. If all the Dyson ships suddenly turned against the player you could just lose the game instantly. Or at the very least, it's likely to open you up to a major AI attack now that you are suddenly distracted. That seems like a very unfun mechanic to me. This is the same behaviour as was in AI War Classic. |

You make a really good point. I didn't know that the AI could build an Antagonizer. I guess it makes sense that the Antagonized Dyson are hostile to Allied Dyson where the Antagonized Dyson are more or less "motivated" by the AI. One note though - My experience has been that the Allied Dyson units *do* turn hostile to the player, for example, during a hack (both the pre-existing Allied Dyson and the Allied Dyson that spawn during the hack). They also do revert back to friendly after the hack is over. I think this makes sense and is a separate case than your example, but wanted to flag it just in case. I think this can be closed.
