Summary | 0023311: Parasitic starting fleet still has less fleet lines than other starting fleets
Description | So, I know I already reported a similar issue, but I just realized that the Parasitic starting fleet was actually down two ship lines from the other starting fleets. The rest have four starting ships lines (3 fleet ships, 1 starship). Parasitic now has Parasites, Mugger Frigates, and Parasitic Hybrids, but it's still one ship line short relative to the others. If zombification is really good (and it does seem to be pretty good, having just finished a game with this starting fleet), then adding another ship line might make this starting fleet overpowered, but if so, that seems like more of a balance issue with Parasites/zombification units themselves. And I struggled pretty hard against Mark V planets for a while since you can't zombify Dire Guardians. As for the ship type to add, it looks like either Nanoswarms or Parasitic Pike Corvettes are the remaining base-game fleet ships that use different techs from what's already in the fleet. I'd probably vote Pikes and reserve Nanoswarms as an interesting thing to stumble upon.

First, if Mark V planets are tough against parasite units then you should get ship lines that are more effective against Dires and then invest tech in them. Learning what unit types are good under which circumstances is a good thing. I don't think adding a new ship line for numeric consistency is a good idea. Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. If the parasite fleet was underpowered then it can be buffed, and indeed it just was, but from your recent AAR it doesn't sound like that was an issue. |

These are numerically inferior by design. Not all ship lines are created equal, and parasites are particularly valuable to a lot of players. We COULD nerf parasites to make them on par with other ships, but that would entirely destroy the fun of parasites. As these stand, I think that they are pretty well balanced, and having one less ship line in exchange for having all those parasites is supposed to help make it not the fleet you just choose by default all the time. |

Makes sense, thanks for the replies. |
