Summary | 0023435: Tech Categories Missing
Description | Command Stations and Citadels (at least, maybe others) are not showing up in the Tech sidebar. This is for new games only with the latest patch, they are still there for pre-existing saves. Also reported on Steam.

Tech categories are not supposed to appear if they are of no relevance to you... does it seem like it thinks you don't have any of the units of that type? The fact that this is only in new savegames is really strange, since IIRC it calculates what to show on the fly. |
|
I've started a new game since I finished my last one... and yes this *does* show up at the beginning of a game. However as soon as you build your first non-home command center they show up in the tech tree list. Citadels still don't but the assumption is you'd have to capture one before it shows up within the listing. So this is a UI change really. You aren't actually blocked out from tech upgrading your command stations. The game is just hiding that option until you actually own a relevant target to upgrade. |

Thanks both. I could have sworn the command stations at least used to show up from the start of the game. Maybe I'm misremembering. |
|
They did used to show up from the very start of the game. Now they are not until you build the first one. Its a minor difference at best since its not like you particularly need to upgrade command stations in the first couple minutes of the game until you've placed at least the first one as the front door to your home system. |

Thanks! * Previously, the tech menu only showed techs that would actually benefit a ship you have at present, or which you could capture. ** This was very confusing to a lot of players, as they would not see the entire tech tree and thus think that something was missing or broken. ** In some other cases, possibly due to changes in the recent past, you CAN build something (like a command station), but since you have not done so yet, it would not show up. ** All of the techs now always show up, but the ones that are for ships that would not benefit you right now still show up as red and not researchable. ** Additionally, the tech color shows up as white when it benefits ships you have, gray when it benefits ships that you don't have right now, and lighter gray when it benefits ships that you could capture. ** Please note that since citadel upgrades don't benefit battlestations anymore, the citadel tech not showing from the start was working properly. |
