Summary | 0023968: "You shall not pass" anti-deepstrike guardians
Description | This could be viewed as an alternative to the Reserves or a complementary idea to add flavour to the game in an expansion. I just thought that it would be very cool and imagination-striking if the Reserves... or rather let's call them the Confinement Squad for now, since it's a different idea, initially just warped-in without attacking and formed a big wall of neutral units in your path when you start going beyond the 4 systems limit, and stared you down. As in "nope buddy, you're overstepping our tolerance limit. One more step and you'll regret it". Basically that would be your warning, more explicit than a popup. Then they'd gradually turn hostile if you press your luck. It'd be pretty unique as AI behaviors go. The lore justification would be that they are another autonomous task force besides the Praetorian, Hunter and Warden, and are tasked with preventing dangerous expansion of sentient lifeforms like humans, since those have historically proven to be the most credible threat to the AI due to their high ability to evolve and adapt. This rigid programming and the fact that the main AI consciousness is too busy elsewhere to update them explains why they don't go against the Nanocaust. Basically they're a looser, mobile version of the Slave Shield in Star Control II, for anyone who played that. I feel like there could be other applications of neutral AI (or other) units following you around without shooting. It would make more alive the overall theme of the AI gradually turning its gaze back to you, or just make the galaxy feel more alive, period.
