Summary | 0024037: New beta main menu early feedback
Description | I must say I'm not a fan at all of the new main menu as seen in Beta 2.621 but I haven't seen the following addressed: - The scrolling space texture at the exit is sickening. I mean it as literally motion-sickness-inducing. It's moving as if the ship you're in is spinning out of control. On top of that, both the texture for background stars and planets have visible seams. - You're showing close-up that the ship models are not that detailed and don't even have thruster flames or other details typically expected of space games. - It's claustrophobic. You're stuck in this dark, cheap-looking hangar model that doesn't evoke a sense of scale and grandeur like you can see for instance in Star Wars hangars. And you only have a tiny window on space, in a space game. If you want to show something spitting out ships, how about the same scene turned around where you're looking at the carrier or golem spitting out ships towards the camera. With 5-10 ships exiting simultaneously as a squad and splitting off, or having a continous, massive stream of drones pouring out. Advantage one: they go towards you, so you don't see the absence of thrusters. Advantage two: there's a lot of moving stuff and they go fast, so you have less time to focus on how ugly the model looks. Or something like this swarm of ships next to a capital ship from the 1995 Tie Fighter intro: https://youtu.be/dK6Q8QgnCDs?t=116 The original title screen is just fine though, honestly. Not sure investing time in changing that has a good ROI at all.

I don't have any comments to add, and am not looking for feedback of this sort on this element. I'm sorry that you don't like it. |

Better to hear it from me more privately on the bugtracker than to get publicly bashed by the raving hordes when it's too late to rework everything. Many companies actually pay to get mock reviews that don't mince words. No? Never mind, I won't waste my time on this kind of feedback again then. You'd better at least pay attention to the "motion-sickness-inducing" part BTW, some people are really sensitive to that kind of wild spinning motion... not sure why'd you put something like this on a "quiet" screen like the main menu. |
