Summary | 0002425: Spire Blade Spawners
Description | Some ideas: -Blades deal heavy damage, unless AI has something to counter them (gravity effects mostly) (MKIII does 320k damage). Their damage should be toned down, maybe their main vessel should get buffed, and cap lowered even further to compensate for damage instead. -Blades can get speed-boosted, someone having Spire Blade could favor Logistics Orbital Command Station instead of Military version, as speed boost effectively increases lifespan & range. (edit) They should be immune to speed boosters. -Blade seek range is very large, instead of "infinite" range, that should be lowered to a range where on enemy planets, they'd normally die from attrition (target seek range =~ max distance travelled in 10 seconds, maybe 1.5 times of it to get some benefit from human command stations - speed boost). This "infinite" seek range is both beneficial (logistics command) and non-beneficial (blades try to attack things that are out of their range, and also, while trying to do so, they ignore the targets that are closing in).

the handling of the spawned blades is a bit dissapointing imo- they are effectively just very powerful one shot projectiles that can 'miss' if the target moves quickly away or shoots the blades down. it would be cool if they had longer lifetimes (ie, a spawner maintained about 40 blades in existance at any given time rather than 4) and balanced accordingly, so like the hive frigates in Homeworld: Catalysm they are initially powerful, then as the drones are destroyed they must retreat for x minutes until they have rebuilt a full compliment. |
|
But wouldn't that clash with the hive golem? |
|
That'd be a mini hive golem, I have no objections though. But, I've never seen them missing anything. I obliterated many Mark IV planets just with Blade Spawners and Cloaker Starships. That's why I kinda suggested these above :) |

* Spire Blades (from Spire Blade Spawners) now move at speed 1200 instead of speed 140, and they are now immune to speed boosting. This gives them a longer effective range, makes them less likely to miss their target, and so on. |
