Summary | 0027557: Weapon points and stacks don't play nicely.
Description | Yet another small issue with stacks. This time it's weapon points: They really don't play nicely with stacks. Weapon points against non-stacked ships work on a per-target basis, both for the generation of weapon points and for the use of weapon points. In the absence of stacks: If a weapon is set up to gain p points per use, it gains p points per target hit. This means a multishot or aoe weapon hitting n targets gains np weapon points. If a weapon is set up to use q points per use, it uses q points to deliver it's bonus damage per target hit. (Meaning it can deal different amounts of damage to different targets of the same aoe, even if the weapon is set up to deal equal damage to all targets hit. This all works in a very consistent and logical way. But if stacks are involved, that goes out the window as soon as shot compression comes in. A stack only counts as one target for gaining weapon points, even if shot compression means that a multishot 10 or 10 target aoe weapon fired at only one stack. So a weapon that would ordinarily gain 10p weapon points gains only p. As far as I am aware, this part doesn't affect any basegame unit. But this next part does. A stack only counts as one target for using weapon points, even if shot compression means that a multishot 10 or 10 target aoe weapon fired at only one stack. So a weapon that would ordinarily only have enough weapon points to deal it's bonus damage to one target will instead deal the damage to that stack equivalent to all ten "targets" in the stack being hit by full bonus damage. This affects the youngling firefly, and means it's death damage vs stacks is about 8x higher vs stacked units than unstacked ones.

Limbo, could you take a look at this? |

I should probably mention I have no idea what happens if the unit with weapon points is the one stacked, I didn't test that scenario. |
