Summary0028235: Combat and unexpected outcomes
DescriptionIn general, my approach to combat was to acquire overwhelming force prior to initiating combat and then killing everything before they can respond. The one time I didn't do this, I had snipers from 2 blocks away aggro on me. I left the unit triggering combat to die, but then those snipers went on a rampage in my base. I eventually cleaned them up, but it wasn't satisfying.

I'm not sure what to do about it.

* Added a new message from your future self, which triggers right before you get into the water purification plant battle, and warns you of your technician's upcoming death.
** Generally should defuse the surprise and frustration of that moment, or at least help a lot.

The other part about the remnants of battles you've lost is something that is intentional, and meant to be not so bad or uninteresting. Basically, it's the counterattack for scouting, is the idea anyway.
