Summary | 0003112: Tractors look ugly the way they're set, and AIs who use them behave stupidly.
Description | As it is, a Tractor locks the victive to a fixed coordinate relative to the tractor user. This feels rather lazy, especially when a FF impedes the victim but not the tractor user. It would look much nicer if a tractor fixed the ship in place, and only started to be dragged after it ends up behind the tractor user, so it looks more like two ends of a string rather than a solid bar connecting them. This would also encourage a bit of tweaking of AI tractor users, reversing direction once all the beams are used, rather than blindly driving through the entire player fleet. If the tractor guardian actually made an effort to take the captured away from the rest of the player's ship, they would be a much more interesting threat, requiring chase or the captured to escape on their own.

Any explanation for why this won't be implemented, even if it merely because it would be computationally infeasible to pull of that tractor behavior? |
|
It's computationally incredible and not something I'm inclined to spend a bunch of developmenttime on, either, as a very minor aesthetic issue that would introduce a ton of new bugs as well as slowdown. Nothing in that says win to me. ;) |
