Summary | 0003156: Resources do not overflow to allies properly
Description | It seems that resources do not properly overflow to your allies in some cases. When you generate crystal or metal in excess of 999,999, the excess is supposed to be automatically transferred to your allies. In the attached save, I should be receiving about 2300 each of metal and crystal per second. Instead, my resources are increasing by about 1000 per second. While this is somewhat higher than my own resource generation, it's less than half the amount I should receive. The amount I'm receiving suggests that the resources may be split between all possible allies, not the number of actually-existing allies.

Resources never overflowed to allies. You had (and still have) to gift extra resources. |
Bzzt, wrong. At the moment (later in the same game), I'm showing -1,747 metal/sec, yet gaining over 1K/s due to ally overflow. It's an actual mechanic, it's just not working right in this situation. |

Allow me to quote from http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_1.005_Release : "-Metal and Crystal overflows now automatically go to the other players on a team, rather than just having them be wasted." So, uh, never say never? |
Never while I played (not counting my first game which was pre-art upgrade). I meant "never since 3.0" |

@Draco18s Are you sure? There is a longstanding (like, 3.0 and maybe before longstanding) bug where overflow from allies is not reported in your in net flow in the status bar or the economy tab of the stats screen. In fact, there is no explicit notification whatsoever that this is happening. Thus, it is quite possible for you to have, say a net -500/s out in metal (excluding overflow from allies), but your ally is giving your 750/s metal due to overflow. However, even though your net metal rate is now 250/s, everything in the UI will indicate that you still have a net metal rate of -500/s. The only indication you have that overflow coming in from allies is that your resources are not decreasing as fast as the reported net rate says they should. It's really silly, but for some arcane reason, they devs have said (IIRC) that it will require some sort of tricky restructuring of the coding for economy flow to get ally overflow to be reported correctly. When you said "never since 3.0", did you mean it did work in the last stable 3.0 version and not since then, or did you mean it didn't work in the last stable 3.0 version? |
I have never once noticed that resources overflowed from one player to another. My friend and I even checked once (sometime in the middle of 3.x). |
@Draco18s, you might be experiencing a bug. May I suggest downloading the attached save and checking if your resource flows match the net flows displayed? |
I would, if I still had anyone to play with. |
