Summary0003159: "Symbol" Locked Doors
DescriptionThis is pretty similar to normal locked doors, except it's more global in nature. Kind of like the mysterious doors in Chrono Trigger; I did something similar with symbol doors in Alden Ridge, actually.

Say there are something like ten symbols, each a visual thing. There are various doors around the world with that symbol on it. There is unusually good stuff hidden behind them, but they are all locked and inaccessible.

In certain hostile regions of the world, you have a chance of finding a certain symbol key that matches one of the ten kinds of doors. When you have a symbol key, you can unlock symbol doors. There is more than one key with each symbol on it, so if you lose one, you can find another some time later.

Once a symbol door has been unlocked, it changes graphics so that it no longer has a little lock on the front of it, and then it can be opened freely by anyone from then on.

Whether or not we get to this before alpha is debatable. But, I think it would be good to do at some point.

Okay, a revised mechanic for these: once a symbol key has been found, that gets noted in the "found materials" list, like any other commodity -- these will be commodities, by the way.

AFTER that point, then any new character that gets created in the game will ALSO get one of these keys as a commodity in their inventory when the player takes them over. That way existing characters in the field don't get the benefit of the new key, but you also don't have to clone new keys once somebody finds it and then anybody else dies.
