Summary0003771: "Events" such as funerals.
DescriptionNow that we have this "end turn" mechanic, things that are time-based events now make good sense.

When we want to have something like a funeral, or even a parade celebrating the death of the overlord or whatever, those things can simply be queued up in some sort of "coming events" schedule, with one event per turn per... venue, I guess. Or even just one event per turn, globally, to make things easier on players.

Then basically that event persists as long as the turn does -- so for a long time or not long at all. Anyone who wants to visit the funeral or the parade can do so as long as the turn doesn't change, and that funeral just keeps going on for as long as the turn persists, which could be a really long time, etc. ;)

I think this is a really straightforward way to make the "turns" of the macrogame more meaningful in an adventure-game sense, since the NPCs would be moving around and doing different things that you could then go and see. And that would then let us do things like funerals and parades pretty easily, too, which would otherwise be very hard.

The settlement entrance area itself, what we currently call the settlement node, could even be what is used for this. When it's a funeral then we put out some somber hangings or something, and the NPCs all give dialogue lines about the deceased. When it's a parade, we make it rain confetti and fireworks go off and there are costumes and streamers and banners and such, and the NPCs all give dialogue lines about how joyous it is and how glad they are that the overlord (or jerk of a player character, if that's the case) is dead.

And thus we have yet another way to VERY directly manifest the "deeds system," but at the same time you aren't forced to attend. If you don't care about the parade or the funeral, then you don't have to go; but you know it is there, and if you care to, you can see that the NPCs are talking about what just happened before getting on with their lives.

And I'm sure that we can think of more events of a more general nature to include over time, such as festivals and market days and whatever else, etc, etc. There's really a lot we could do with that, and I really like how it ties together adventure mode (to visit the event), macrogame (to see upcoming events and change the turn to toggle them), and past events (aka the deeds system stuff).

Thoughts? Obviously this doesn't need to be pre-beta.

I think it's worthwhile. Again, not sure about the loner/non-escalating player in this because they may not press end-turn very often or at all, but this is certainly a potential place to hang those hats, so to speak.

Well, in terms of a loner, what do they care about events? These are basically thematic things for the most part, making past actions matter via the NPCs that are given to visibly care about them during the events, etc.

And there may also be other benefits, but like any macrogame stuff it's something that a loner can simply do without.

If you're worried about the event queue getting too large, then I suggest we just put a cap on it of something like 10 events, or even 50, and treat it like a FIFO queue.

Well, since we don't have turns anymore, this doesn't really apply.
