Well, that's a procedurally generated name, and in terms of the Slutsky that's apparently a real last name in either Russia or Poland. Obviously there it doesn't have the same English connotations. I'm not sure if we should try and censor out legitimate names that people might take in a bad light or not. Possibly, but I'm curious what folks think. |

I think we have enough variety in names that we could pull a few with the more unfortunate accidental meanings-in-english/american-culture. Of course some of the names are probably offensive in other languages, so not sure on how far to go with that. |

I agree with Keith, I'd hate to see us lose sales over something like that. And I can definitely see how someone might decide not to buy because of that name. |

Yea. Though honestly, I've seen worse real names on listings of who's teaching which class at a school. At some point it's just normal that other people or previous eras meant different things by the same sequence of letters. Though I still think it's considerably more avoidable in our situation ;) |

Just thought I would add my disagreement. If you do this, it's a slippery slope. You would also have to outlaw Wang, Dong, John Thomas, Peter, Percy, Dick )as a first and last name), and about 50 others without using British humor. You could go down the entire English language and start banning cockpit, titmouse, and woodpecker. Can't we all just be adult about this? It's not like the guy's name is Dick Sweat, which is the actual real name of a former *elected* congressman from my state. See what I mean? |

Yes, I actually really agree with Cyborg. I'm not inclined to start trying to yank these names out. There are SO many names in there in the first place (several tens of thousands) that the likelihood of someone getting a name that is "funny" in some way like this is definitely up there, but at the same time anyone getting the exact same funny name as someone else is extremely unlikely. |

"Can't we all just be adult about this?" I wish that worked on the internet, I really do. In our immediate circles it tends to, but elsewhere... But yea, it'd be nice to just have historically attested names (and whatever for the skelebots and whatnot) and concentrate on making a game ;) |

Sure, it's the internet. But people are also able to rename characters and such. If they want someone named "Slutsky" or Dick Sweat, they'll have them. The only question in my mind is if we're going to offend someone so badly that they don't want the game at all because of it. I... think that person is likely to be too sensitive to enjoy many games, or the Internet at large, etc. If they think we're making a pun that is offensive then that's one thing, and I guess that might happen, but I don't think there's any way avoiding a few odd cases of that. |

Stop worrying about this and don't waste time fixing things that are matters of opinion. IMO. |
