Hi

Latest patch, diff level 7, single player.

The Avenger almost scared me to death, but here is a seven step exploit that makes him next to harmless:

1. Build two-three mobile builders on the first threatened planet, and place them far apart on the border to outer space (or beyond). To make sure this exploit works, build a few mobile builders on adjacent planets, and place them near the wormhole to your threatened planet.

2. Let the Avenger enter and do its thing (not much you can do to prevent it, after all ).

3. After it has killed your Orbital Command Station on the threatened planet, chances are that at least one mobile builder has survived. If not, send one through from an adjacent planet, and perhaps build a few more - make sure there is at least one mobile builder left at all times.

4. Immediately build a Colony Ship in the opposite end of the system from where the Avenger is.

5. Watch the Avenger move slooooowly across the system and kill the Colony Ship.

6a. Repeat steps 4 and 5 ad infinitum - the Avenger will invariably stay to hunt the Colony Ship before moving on.

6b. Send your main fleet to the other AI Home Planet and win the game.

You have to do a bit of multitasking to get this to work, I became so involved in fighting on the other Home Planet while at the same time warding off a cpa that I forgot to keep watch on the Avenger, so twice he killed all my Mobile Builders and moved on to my next planet. But here I managed each time to set up a new exploit circuit, effectively stopping the Avenger in its progress.

This should be fixed as of a while ago; it wasn't supposed to be chasing normal command stations, and will no longer do so.
