Summary0004598: Multiple strategic options per region may be problematic.
DescriptionIf you build a wind shelter in an unscouted area and find survivors there, you are unable to rescue them until you scout the whole area (as clicking it scouts, not rescues). Obviously a very minor issue, possibly even intended. However, it does highlight the fact that if there are two things you could potentially do with a tile, there is currently no way to pick one or the other. I'm guessing as new mechanics get added this might prove to be an issue?

Haven't tested yet, but as an example, how do you handle finding survivors to rescue in a cave system on the same tile as say, the new consciousness shard mine things? In this case the two actions aren't necessarily cheap ones, and if you HAVE to take the mine and earn the wrath of the overlord to be able to rescue the survivors...

Yes, this is working by design. You can't rescue survivors without going to their chunk first.

Ah well that's the thing, I've been to their chunk, had a chat to them etc, just have only scouted 87% of the surface of the area :-)

Yeah, you're really not supposed to be able to do anything strategic there until you scout first. Sorry for the lack of clarity there, I misread your original thing.

Err, Chris? I think you misread the description up there... (I did the same when I first saw this ticket.)

In terms of the consciousness shards mine thing... that's a good point. And something I leave to Keith. ;)

Shouldn't having an area scouted as the player unlock it as scouted on the strategic map? That would seem to be intuitive. If I've been there, I shouldn't also have to send another person there to look around as well.

Yeah that's kind of it Bob, i've been there, but I've only 'seen' 5/6 of the surface chunks (visited 3/6, one of which was the wind shelter with npc's, which I constructed). As I didn't scout all 6/6 of the surface, the area doesn't count as scouted. If that is the intention in this particular case, hey, fair enough.

Though the point still stands that when you have multiple valid options available: some survivors in a cavern, on a mine tile, with a rampaging monster on top... If I send an npc to the tile, which of the 3 gets addressed? What if I wanted one of the other two? tough luck?

will get even more arbitrary when more actions get added..

If you scout the entire surface region, it counts as scouted in the strategic map. If you scout in the strategic map, it reveals the entire contents of the surface region (in terms of dungeon nodes). Scouting part of the region in adventure mode doesn't have any effect on the strategic side.

Updated summary to be clearer.

My approach for the multiple actions thing will be basically the approach I took on the settlement management: make left-click do one of them (hopefully the most common one) and have the others be available via right-click-to-open-detail-window, then left-click the button on the detail window corresponding to the desired action.

But right now it isn't a major priority to preemptively deal with all the various conflicts, there aren't many and none of them are terribly likely.
