Summary0004868: Unclear to me what magical attack power means
DescriptionI see it on the character, and on the spell tooltip in inventory.

What's odd is that I'll see something like:
Ball Lightning 1/ Magical Power 2503 (1632)
Ball Lightning 2/ Magical Power 2791 (1920)

At first I thought the numbers in () are the effective damage I'm doing, but it looks like the first number is the damage I'm doing. So after investigating, it seems like the number is Base+Magical Attack Power (Base)

Am I reading this right?

Why is the Tier II spell only 12% improved over tier I?
Okay, nevermind -- went back and read the patch notes. I'm only level 13 so shouldn't expect much degrading at this point. Got it.

Okay, so what is this report really about? Would be useful if there were more descriptions for the character attributes -- MP and HP I get, but the others it's not very clear what the impact is. Like casting speed. Until you do some math :-)

Also it should probably be listed that the power is only against enemies within a certain level range and always show the power in the current chunk, not the power against the player's level (or if they degrade according to the player's level instead of the chunk's then that needs to be changed to degrading vs the chunk level).

These probably could be made more clear.

1. The power does not degrade based on enemy level -- enemy level health and power scales up or down, instead.

2. The normal power shown is the actual damage that is dealt, regardless of enemy level.

3. The parenthetical power is how much of that damage is coming from the spell itself, since the first number is technically the power of the spell plus your character's actual aptitude (which never changes).

These seem more like wiki topics than something that needs to be in the game proper, honestly, because there's only so much screen space and we can't do tooltips on a tooltip, and it's also only something the super-hardcore would really even think to ask, I think. ;)

So if you're level 30 and use a tier I spell on a level 1 enemy you hit him with a badly degraded spell?

"So if you're level 30 and use a tier I spell on a level 1 enemy you hit him with a badly degraded spell?"

If you're level 30 and use a tier I spell, it attacks _anything_ with a badly degraded spell. The level of the enemy is irrelevant.

However, the level 1 enemy would have badly degraded health of his own, and badly degraded attack stats, so he would hardly be able to hurt you and your badly degraded spell would probably finish him off anyhow.

In short: there is no magic invisible modifier here. WYSIWYG in terms of the attack stats on a spell. It does that damage to anything you attack.

Thanks!

* The parenthetical magical attack power from the spell alone is no longer shown in tooltips unless you have the F3 debug menu on.
** It was needlessly confusing for the general case, but if someone really wants to know which part of the damage is coming from the spell itself, now that can still be found out.
