Summary0004934: Left click in Inventory casts LMB bound spell
DescriptionAVWW has always had this problem but I only saw it as a minor inconvenience until yesterday when I was in my first settlement messing around with my inventory, having just returned from a boss fight of some kind, when I left clicked and launched Creeping Death II into the ground in front of me killing a NPC and grievously injuring two others. If you add in the clumping behavior mentioned in 0004851, I could have easily have killed far more if I had clicked farther over and been standing a tad closer.

Having Creeping Death equipped and LMB bound while in town is obviously my fault and requires no fixing save for greater discretion on my part. The spell comes with adequate warning and its a lesson worth learning. However I thought I'd bring it up since this UI bug also leads to wasted magic in general and sometimes also leads to losing doorway invulnerability prematurely.

Cannot duplicate this with the default bindings. Did you alter the key bindings in some fashion?

This sounds like a dupe of 4574, which does require altering the key bindings.

Yeah, it's clearly not preventing some of the alternate bindings when clicking GUI elements. I'm just wanting to make sure what alterations of keybinds have to occur in order for that to actually happen.

I've made changes before but I think this is a fresh install without alterations to the control setup.

I'm away from my desktop at the moment but I'll get back to you on this when I return home in about six hours. I'll note the settings, test it and then hit default settings and try it again to be sure.

There is no restore default controls button apparently.

In order of Alpha, Keypad, Gamepad, Mouse
Use ability in slot 1 - 1 1 2 LMB, slot 2 - 2 2 3 RMB, slot 3 - 3 3 4 MB5, slot 4 - 4 4 5 MB4, slot 5-556, 6-667, 7-779, 8-88, 9-99, 10-00

Mouse Abilities 1-LMB, 2-RMB, 3-MMB, 4-MB4, 5-MB5, 6-MB6, 7-MB7

My offensive spells are always in slot 1 or 2 and are assigned the left and right mouse button respectively. In the case of the incident I had creeping death II in slot 1. MB4 is the button I use to lay down platforms and I always have platforms in slot 4. Slot 3 I don't really use and since the inventory occasionally swaps rows/scrambles itself I don't often have something consistent there.

Thanks for the details!

Regarding restoring defaults:

What you can do to restore the default controls is rename inputbindings.dat to inputbindings2.dat or similar. Then delete inputbindings.bak, and start the game, and you'll be back to the defaults. Later you can put back your real input bindings if you want.

ah, an ID10T error. I apparently double-binded the mouse buttons when I assigned the mouse buttons to the use ability slots as for some reason I thought I had to do that in order to use the mouse to cast spells/place platforms.

Following your instructions fixed the problem obviously, though had I realized what I had done I could have undone it manually. As it is default settings actually gives me the control setup I was trying to make.

I still don't know why my inventory keeps getting rearranged every now and then but that is a different issue entirely as far as I can tell.

Okay, that's good to hear. In terms of your inventory getting re-arranged, are you hitting the R key? That rotates your active ability bar, so that you can get to your whole inventory without actually ever opening it.

That would be it, I wasn't aware it did that. I think I need to move it a bit further away from the e button. Thanks alot for your help, I'm really enjoying the beta so far.
