Summary0007324: Chunks having themes
DescriptionRather than all chunks in certain areas being generated in the same way, it would perhaps be more interesting to have themes that adjust chunk generation. So some chunks could be generated for heavy platforming. They'd have some mechanism that destroys player platforms. Other chunks will have a theme of ambushes by monsters. Other chunks would have a theme of endless monster generation (via an indestructible monster generator) -- get out quickly or you'll be overwhelmed. You get the idea. This will really mix up chunks so it's not the same idea within a certain area. So in caves, you go from one type of cave to another -- they're all labeled as regular cave chunks, but they have design ideas behind the generation. Or a chunk could be a lake chunk with islands above it. It could happen in several different overland areas or in a cave.

This all dovetails with the ideas for special floors and mechanisms and objects to do all sorts of crazy stuff, but it can be orthogonal to those things too. So you get a combination of tile type + chunk randomness + chunk theme + objects, special floors and mechanisms + enemies (some chunks could have a theme that precludes enemies) and all these things together will make really spectacular randomness.

Now if there was a way to make player enchants random (and by that I mean a specific choice) too rather than allowing the player to switch to any enchant at any time, you'd have a perfect combination for random encounters.
