Summary0008458: What's Powerslide?
DescriptionI have some Enchants that allegedly give me the "Powerslide Ability". Their descriptions don't say what that ability *does*, however, nor how to activate it.

It's a power slide. I thought the name is self-explanitory, but it's a slide you can do when you kneel down while moving. Used with Storm Dash, you can slide really far really fast. Normally when you kneel, you make a dead stop. With powerslide, you slide along the ground while kneeling.

Hm, does anyone ever use powerslide? The effect is a little minor in my opinion, I have no real use for it. The other leg enchants have either superior special effects (windstorm immunity/falling damage immunity) or better stat boni (movement speed, and the boni on the stone leg enchants are my favourite for difficult battles because of earth boost and damage reduction that seems to be fairly high on all stone legs I got compared to other leg enchants). I think it could be nice to buff the special effects of powerslide like sliding through crates with storm dash destroys them and sliding with storm dash negates the triple damage effect and you can pass through enemies and damage them a little while taking normal melee damage and not suffering knockback. You can't accelerate while powersliding so I think it would be ok. OR make the different uses of powerslide more clear, it wasn't hard for me to figure out how it works but I don't see any use after you can shrink yourself.

Originally, ducking didn't increase your friction to absurd values, so you could slide like this always. However, some people found this confusing, and it made it easy to get trapped (this was back in the day where 1 tile high passageways seeded regularly). So, this ludicrous sliding was removed by making ducking increase friction (or alternatively, ducking while moving applied a severe deceleration).

However, some people liked this effect for various reasons, one, not at all small reason was because it looks cool. Thus, the old logic was made into an enchant.

Thus, that's really the few reasons why powerslide is still even in the game. Despite so many other tools coming around that can do what it can do more practically and directly, it's remains because some people think it looks cool. It is mostly a cosmetic effect ATM.

I do like Tarmandan's idea. At high speeds, powersliding gives you a melee hitbox. As he/she said, it wouldn't be OP, because you can't jump without losing the slide, and you can't keep you speed up while powersliding. It would give it a use beyond just looking cool. ;)

I think power slide should make you immune to damage while sliding instead of doing damage, so that you can slide past enemies that are in your way.

Um, why was this marked resolved? I see no entry in the release notes addressing powerslide or its description.

@Lunarknight64

As fun as that sounds, it also sounds ludicrously OP.
I can see maybe giving immunity to passive, contact melee attacks and/or immunity to "monster solidity", but immunity to all damage would be sort of broken.

I should have been more specific, but I did mean only melee damage. I really should have typed that exactly.
