Summary0008727: Gem Market Building
DescriptionI think that there should be a third way to get Consciousness Shards without farming, by building a Gem Market Building to give all NPC's a secondary "Merchant" profession that allows you to sell gems to them for Consciousness Shards, and each Gem gets a random price but the highest priced gem is the one associated with the NPC's profession, for example, if you have a Sapphire and sell it to a Aquaurgist, it will sell for the highest price of all your gems to that merchant because both Sapphires and Aquaurgists are associated with the Water element, so Sapphires are considers by Aquaurgists a very useful and valuable gem to work with. of course this means you devs have to apply elements to each profession but still, its a cool idea (Aquaurgy is Water (duh), Forgician is Fire (He buys Ruby's, to melt and shape tools. (He also buys Copper and Iron ingots), Apothekinesis is Entropy (They study the dark winds coming from between cracks of reality, which are evil in nature) (They buy Dispersia) Stonebinder is Earth (Buys Jade) Lumbermancer is also Earth (But Lumbermancers buy Growth Extracts and Old Growth Extracts in addition to Jade) Technozoologists are Light and Air (they buy Citrine and Opal)

What about adding a non-equivalent exchange between gem types? So you might trade an Aquaugist two jade for one sapphire (perhaps 3 for 1). This idea would also coincide with the Profession <-> Gem association of the original idea.

Ok, that might sound like a good idea

Well you can't just simply sell them and let it stay at that. Settlement NPCs should probably first have a Markethouse placed in the settlement, as a flavor building, and the Markethouse opens up the ability to sell to your NPCs from there, much like the mission dispatch from the green ilari (perhaps invites a market ilari to the settlement? idk). From there, different merchants have preferences on gems, rating their "Productivity", affected by mood and what gems you've sold and traded to them. The Aquaurgist would like buying your sapphires, leading to a better productivity for either them or their profession overall, for that continent. Higher productivity could affect rates like gems given, etc...

Yes, Link the sales to the mood and profession too. that will be a great addition
