Summary0009519: Filling buckets with shallow water.
DescriptionI realized that buckets can only be filled with deep water. This was only after some confusion in which I thought I had disabled some shallow water spots' ability to fill my bucket by dumping water onto them. :) I think that if shallow water is deep enough to slow the player's movement, it should be deep enough to fill a bucket as well. The only concern, of course, is whether this will impact existing puzzles.

That was something that we've relied on in a great many puzzles, yeah. The idea being that you need to go to a well or a deep water spot to get water, since you can't really fill a bucket out of an inch or so of water on the ground, which is what I imagine the thin water to be.

Okay. The bucket is quite large, so it would probably take a foot of water to fill it. Instead, I think the shallow water should not slow the player down. As a comparison, it doesn't slow Link down in Zelda 3. I'll make sure the tutorial makes it clear that shallow water isn't enough.

I wonder if we should have a third type of shallow water, which is deep enough to wade in and fill buckets with? It would also be neat if the bottom half of the character disappeared when submerged. Such terrain would also be helpful when you're being chased by flying creatures or shot at. The lowest water could then take on the appearance created by pouring out the bucket.

Adding more types of water would be pretty expensive in terms of art, as that's quite a lot of frames when you factor transitions and rocks and so forth. But, not making the water slowing makes a lot of sense ala Zelda 3.

Thanks!

-thin water is now not slowing at all, and shallow water is hardly slowing at all, per Zack's suggestion.
