Summary | 0009773: Modular fortresses move around
Description | I've only ever noticed this with modular fortresses, but I'm wondering if it doesn't also apply to normal fortresses. If you build a modular fortress right next to a wormhole, and a friendly large minor-faction ship collides with it, the fortress will move away. I noticed this specifically with the Neinzul Roaming Enclave. In addition, you can build turrets that collide with the fortress, making the fortress move away. This means placing turrets around a modular fortress (or four; hello chokepoint!) can get extremely annoying. This also applies to the normal fortresses, by the way.

This has to do with the lack of "must sit still for X time for repair beams" that some of the mod forts have. That logic on normal forts exclude them from auto FRD. |

The turret-placement thing is a separate issue and quite a bit trickier to handle in a way everyone wants because the forts are mobile units: normally you can place turrets in a pile of your ships, for instance, and those ships just move away. We wouldn't want that to change, I'm guessing. On the allied enclaves bumping them I just fixed that a moment ago; are there other specific ships doing this? Forts (including mod forts) already have very high collision priority. |

The way I envisioned the turret-placement to work would be a check; something along the lines of "if the turret collides with a ship, and that ship has a collision priority of more than X, don't allow the turret to be placed". That'd allow you to fine-tune it to allow turrets to be placed in ship clumps while still allowing the large semi-mobile military to not get knocked around. Granted, I know nothing of the code behind turret placements, so it could be one of those "higher cost than reward" issues (which I'd be kinda fine with; it's annoying, but only in the short term while placing the turrets). Not sure on the ships knocking fortresses off course, since it has been a while since I played. As I can recall, though, the enclaves were the only things I noticed. |
