Summary | 0009876: Journal entries for main campaign
Description | I feel that the Journal entries bring the AI war universe to life a bit and it seems a shame that there aren't any for playing the base game. I would like to see journal entries for the main game starting with an initial one when you start the game. You could have additional entries for when you capture some advanced factories or research stations. When you enounter the AI homeworld for the first time etc. Would bring more life to the mission and could be used to guide newer players, for example a nice journal entry when your first nuke is built from the scientists behind it. Having journal entries could be a good way to bring some sort of story background into the game. Could be something you have the community write and the code is just if a certain event is triggered just like with fallen spire.

Good night, I suggested this so long ago...I even had a nice mini-essay written up about why journal entries, simple as they are, increased immersion and increased my motivation to play. However, you put it up here first, so you get first listing on the credits for this idea. ;) |

I like this idea. Pretty much every main event in the game, taking a planet, having a planet taken, acquiring something rare, researching new tech hacking interacting with enemy/friendly factions etc, could provide a list of flavor text the community could easily create. I can imagine after building a command station, for example, priming an entry like, [Declaration of creation flavor], [Flavor about planet/progress] Ex: [D] With the perseverance of the good men and women we sent to %planetname% the construction of their Command Station is complete. [F] The planet is terribly uninhabitable but has an abundance of metals that we desperately need. [D] It's a terrible thing to see the destruction they've done to %planetname%. Once a hub rich in culture and resources it's a barren wasteland. The cultures slaughtered, the resources removed. [F] To reward our men after the trying battle we've invited the friends and family of the men still at %planetname% to the orbital station promenade. They will be given open comm access, AI threats permitting, so we can all celebrate together. [D] Despite the controversy of the decision to take %planetname% we've succeeded and I feel it was well worth it. Tactically there was no question. [F] There's still no greater sight then the sun rising from behind %planetname%. It's important to focus on the beauty that can inspire us, when survival is so unlikely, every man and woman seems to just be on the threshold of loosing their mind in the traumatizing reality of all this... [D] Since our scouts laid eyes on what remains of %planetname% we knew we would return. And we have. [F]Given the conditions it's incredible to see the improvement in quality %planetname%'s new command station has. Our engineering ability is improving. [D] I doubt it's still there but there used to be very useful medical plants on %planetname% that could dramatically assist our doctors. We'll send down a team for further inspection once we finish fortifying %planetname%s orbit. [F]It's an amazing thing to see the human spirit, so close to being crushed, return with an almost new-found discipline, integrity and pride. |
