Summary | 0001013: Utilise Steam Cloud for Save Games
Description | As discussed in http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1547110 Summery: Use Steam cloud for saves games, or implement a system similar to Civilisation V that uses local saves by default, but gives the user an optional screen with 10 slots for cloud-based saves (that are independent of any local saves you have)

It's a possibility for the future, but it's not a high priority and is unlikely to come around anytime in the next few months unless it wins a community DLC poll. It's just too specific of a feature for too small a subset of the playerbase, and it's not something that Keith or I are personally interested in, which kind of puts it to the bottom of the barrel compared to a lot of the more generalized improvements that benefit everyone and that we're excited about personally as well. |
Fully understand and agree considering the circumstances - but the fact it's on the list of possible "to do"'s makes me a happy bunny :) |
It's definitely a possibility, and thanks for understanding. :) |
Another way is to make it easy and only sync the saves when the game exits. Not sure if steams API takes care of which files are to be updated per folder or not. I've heard its easy to implement though. |
Incidentally, I recently took a look at the API for the steam cloud, and the chances of us ever doing this plummeted. It's a great API, but it's VERY C++ focused, and that's just not an area we like to get into. There are some other design/coding concerns there in terms of compatibility with AI War's existing model that I can't discuss because of NDA. But suffice it to say, this would be no small challenge for this specific game. |
My Steam-cloud: Open hotmail, attach savegame to email, mail it to myself. Play my existing game from where ever I can download and install AIW :) |
Dropbox also works for this, or any other file-based "cloud-system". :) King |
