Summary | 0010425: New tag: DoNotWatch
Description | Previously, I have placed Darrell's NPC in the downstairs of his house, where he is said to be sleeping. If you talk to him, you get a humorous "talking in sleep" dream message which is actually alluding to his rescue of Pierce. This worked well before because Darrell always faced north, so you couldn't see his eyes. Now, with the usually awesome AI that makes NPCs and enemies face you, he actually faces the kids at all times, destroying the sleeping effect. I would like to have a DoNotWatch tag, which could come in handy elsewhere, such as if an NPC should always be facing a bookshelf or desk. An alternate solution would be a "sleeping Darrell" NPC, but we would only be using it in the tutorial, or at least, so far.

Also, I have Darrell's sides and back protected by walls and furniture so that you can't talk to him and make him change directions. (Not sure if that behavior actually exists, come to think of it.) So, this tag should probably allow NPCs to face you while talking, like they do in Final Fantasy games, yet return to the direction they were facing. (The FGFACING command will have set this in advance.) |

How about this instead -- what if we make a "Darrell In Bed" object? Then we can actually put him in the covers and so forth, and make it so that he doesn't turn because he literally can't. It seems a good use for several edge cases that you're running into here.e |
I had placed him in his study to make it seem that he had fallen asleep unintentionally, since he hates to sleep when Mary is foraging. Can we instead have a "Darrell On Chair" object for this? |
Sure, that would work. |
Now done: * Added a new "sleeping darrell" foreground entity that is now used in the second screen of the game. Now it's clear that he's asleep, rather than him hilariously sleeping on his feet like he was previously doing (that was always temporary). :) |
