Summary0011065: AIWar - mono.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
DescriptionCan't even begin to run AI War. Have tried deleting and reinstalling from Steam. But all I get is a popup telling me I have a new crash log folder, and in that, in error.log:

Unity Player [version: Unity 3.3.0f4_63135]

mono.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
  in module mono.dll at 0023:10003dd4.

Output_log.txt is zero length. It doesn't even get that far.

After digging, it seems if something is mangled in Unity player's settings this can happen, but I have no idea where settings for Unity would be in this case.

Or it might be something even more fun!

Ok.
Strange.
I went on a few possible problem hunts, and on the way was checking my PATH for anything conflicting by way of mono versions being found first. Nothing. But. Did spot an environment variable I set ages ago to get a Mono program I was trying to compile and run to work, so I deleted it.

Twas MONO_EXTERNAL_ENCODINGS set it to be "default_locale"

I'm not 100% sure that's what fixed it, because I went on a bit of a potential bug squashing wander while I was at it, but it seems a possible candidate.

I've yet to find out which mono program I thought I had working will now crash and burn on me :-) But anyway! It's working!

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, didn't notice this one :)

Yea, I imagine there are a variety of ways to confuse mono into breaking in some edge cases that the Unity engine didn't anticipate :) Glad you found a fix!

Wait, Mono listens to environment variables?

I may look into this as a way of "messing with" mono. ;)
