Summary0011078: Improved Command Station Upgrades in Multiplayer
DescriptionCommand center upgrades are generally less desirable research unlocks in multiplayer games, especially with higher counts of players -- since planet ownership is generally split among the players, you don't tend to get much benefit from unlocking new command centers.

One possible way to start buffing command centers is to let logistics and military substations automatically build on all allied homeworlds. One side effect is that this would allow combining logistics and military stations -- this is very strong, but it would only be possible in homeworlds and you're already facing multiply-strong enemy forces anyways.
Economic substations are potentially too strong for this treatment, especially with higher numbers of players.

Another possible route, but might be an extreme rework: Replace command center upgrades completely with buildable substations. Substations should probably act as visible exo-shields for regular command centers (especially for military substations). This would also make switching command center types in single-player as simple as destroying the old substation and building a new one, instead of having to build a colony ship.
The only additional issue is figuring out what stats a 'naked' command station should have.

Umm, I don't know about you, but I find command center upgrades very useful in multiplayer. However you have to coordinate who takes what.

Not everyone needs to take military for example. However the person who does will likely be building command centers in all the choke points and defensive locations.

Likewise not everyone needs economic. The person who does though will be supporting the other with excess resources, so the other players need to realize this.

The whole point of the game is that the AI first learned to COOPERATE. Now the humans need to learn the same. If they don't they will lose.
