DescriptionI can put out 15-16 chaps and still have resource producers stay at max capacity for several turns. This gets frustrating.

Agreed, there needs to be a change in Chapmen pathing\AI.

That or a variable weighting that can be set as a god, perhaps with an action cost?

Really? Most of my producers sits at zero... although I think I have 20+ producers so they run out of things to do.

Added a SS so I can explain a little better.

Every producer behind the Iron mine is at capacity. I have 14 chaps to work all those tiles. They seem to only want to work the pig farm and iron mine.

Definitely fixed now. Ran the save from games 3 and 5 and it only takes 2 or 3 chaps to harvest now. No producers were left at full after a few turns of harvesting.

The only thing I worry about with the upgraded chaps is the rate you can bring in resources. It's a balance thing that might need to be played with a bit more.

But that is a separate issue.

Yeah, this is true -- it's all a big soup of dials that have to be tuned just right, and hence a large part of the alpha. The big thing is making sure there's not an incentive to have dozens of chapmen, because that has un-fun implications for players looking at all that clutter and so on.

So then fixing the other side of that is comparably tamer, at least.

We have a while in alpha, yet. With the rate at which commentary is coming in, plus my general to-do list, I'll be surprised if beta starts before Wednesday or Thursday. Better to come out more polished than less, right?

True. I'm not privy to the workload you guys have so I try to be a realist about it. If we can find a sweet spot during alpha, then I'm all for it. My goal would be to have an extremely solid 1.0, but I'm all for making the most of the Alpha.

Well, we also have a pretty tight run up to the 1.0, too: we pretty much need to hit that by the week of the 20th or so. That's going to mean about a week-long beta if alpha lasts until late this next week.

I hate having these stupid rush deadlines, but Valley 2 and Shattered Haven were not good to us sales-wise, and I'm hitting the limit of what I can afford without a game that actually pays the bills. Not company-threatening, but half-the-staff threatening.

Personally, I see more in Skyward than I saw in Valley 2 or Shattered Haven. Not saying that's a bad thing though. I don't envy your position at all. And I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I hope Skyward does well.

I tell you, it would be really nice for something else to pick up the banner from AI War. :) AI War has just been phenomenally successful beyond my wildest dreams, but nothing else has yet to replicate that. Not that I want to stop working on AI War, but we need to have all our eggs not be in a four-year-old game's basket. Though Valley 1+2 makes about half our income these days. We just spent way too much money making it for how niche it is, is all it comes down to.

Now we're playing it smarter, and developing stuff that is cheaper for us to make and cheaper for customers as well. And if it's popular, THEN we grow it. Odd as it is to say this, but Skyward is actually our idea of a kind of small game. And I mean it's freaking massive, by most standards. ;)
