Summary0011585: UI suggestion: Town range highlighting changes
DescriptionRight now, when placing a building, only spaces within range of a TC that are not covered by tiles already are highlighted. This made more sense when you could only place tiles next to other tiles and not on top of tiles.

It might be helpful to see the entire square in which placement is possible for a town.In addition, it might be nice to see actual legal placement squares highlighted in some way.

My suggestion would be to always draw a (hollow) square around the entire town range, and fill in/highlight any space the is legal for placement. This way both the range of a town and legal placement spaces are both communicated in an easy to interpret visual way.

That's pretty tricky to do for a variety of reasons. I mean, it's not impossible, but I'm also really not thinking the juice is worth the squeeze there; it would take me 30+ minutes, and I'm not sure how much this is really worth to players, you know? 30 minutes isn't an eternity, but when you have 80+ features that take between 30-120 minute each lined up... well, you have to prioritize. And since that list tends to grow infinitely, things of low priority tend not to get implemented at all.

That's totally understandable, it's certainly best that you prioritize what is important.

In the end you were right, this helps a lot with clarity, particularly for new players. Mainly it fit within something else I was already doing, so it took less time than otherwise.

* The interface for placing building tiles and showing where that is allowed has been completely revamped.
** A light-colored box shows above all the tiles, denoting the range you can place things in.
** The land tiles within that range that you can replace are now highlighted in green.
** The empty tiles within that range show up green in a manner consistent with what now happens when you place the town centers.
