Summary | 0011936: Intrusion Module
Description | IMs are permacloaked ships that latch onto player owned production facilities and start hacking them. Every few hours (or whatever triggers it) the AI dispatches an Intrusion Module. The module flies to whichever production facility the AI prefers and sits right next to it. When the IM hacks a facility it slowly builds up progress, whenever the facility builds a unit that unit is produced with lower starting health. Once the IM's hack is complete the facility will be converted the next time a unit finishes building at it: The current build queue is locked in and set to repeat, all units produced by the facility (including the one that triggered the conversion) come out owned by the AI (not sure whether zombie or not) but the production costs are still taken from the player. The AI will not attack a facility that's being hacked by an IM and attempts to scrap it fail (only after clicking "yes" on the confirmation dialog so you can't just poll these things nilly-willy). The only way to decloak an Intrusion Module is a tachyon warhead (no other tachyon sources, including Champion tachyon pulses, will work). However because the IM contains part of the AI's brain systems it reduces AIP by a few points when destroyed. The production facility reverts back to normal when the IM is destroyed, perhaps with a 60 second grace period in which the AI still doesn't attack it so that the freshly produced units don't snipe their own fabricator just as it turns back. Basically the player has to watch for the hint that a module has attached to one of his facilities (lower health units) and then detonate a tachyon warhead to say "I think the IM is located here". If the facility is not producing anything while the IM hacks it, well, the conversion will be your first warning. So beware of IMs attaching to missile silos.

I oppose any system that forces the player to use warheads, the choice of tactics should always be full of options. Other wise, I like it. |

The warhead there is just a way to force guesses to be deliberate choices because a wrong guess means unnecessary AIP. Regular tachyon coverage is too easy to get for the player and the champion's EMP pulse is free so you could just drop them on the faintest suspicion. |
