Summary | 0012746: "Robot Zoo!"
Description | Thought I'd pop this up on Mantis. It was a fairly well received idea on the forum(http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,13922.0.html). Basically, whenever you open a locked door there could be the chance of encountering something like the monster zoos from Dungeons of Dredmor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLhm-Ehj82c More detailed explanation by Misery. "YES. This. Let's do this. It'd be hilarious. To explain to those that havent seen it: Not so much a boss battle, Monster Zoos are special (often large) rooms where damn near EVERY SINGLE TILE has a monster on it. There's one on every floor, except the very first, and they are DANGEROUS. ....particularly since, when you open the door that leads to it, you're standing RIGHT NEXT to a whole pile of them. Not only are there normal monsters in there.... often 100+ of them, but there's boss monsters mixed in as well (in that game, they're souped up versions of normal monsters, they can appear randomly anywhere but are more rare). Monster Zoos can be very difficult to clear and require that you use your skills and your inventory as best you can. Defeating one though is VERY satisfying, and if you know what you're doing you can indeed completely clear out every single one on a given run."

Not sure how well this would work, some people shoot doors open from afar, and in that case, all you would need is one or two good blasts of the old plasma cannon. |
|
At least the plasma cannon is not a default weapon -- it's an epic upgrade, right? Although, the rocket lauuncher seems virtually as good to me. You have a point. This game is much more AOE heavy than DoD, so a ton of bots in a confined space might not work as well. It's a little tough to say with all the crazy interactions between the different robots, though. |
|
I think the idea was for it to be behind a locked door. Even then, this game is much more ranged heavy than DoD, so starting right next to those bots would be a bit too brutal. Edit: perhaps make the robots be under an EMP effect for 2-4 turns. That would give the player time to switch Exos and plan accordingly. Or run away screaming. Whichever is best, based on the enemy composition. |
