Not bad, though it needs more work-through. There would have to be advantages to join, and advantages to leave. And some additional gameplay while within in the Federation. Think: the Holy Roman Empire in its early Renaissance days. Enough reasons to stay within it, but some members were restive and felt like too many resources were being diverted to the Emperor. Being inside and outside both had corresponding advantages. |
I think that if existing Federation members had to approve of new members it would make the game more interesting and challenging. Not only would you have to convince the new member to apply (similar as you have them join now) but the existing members would have to approve of the new member. (There could be a scheduled vote.) |
^Agree, it will have to be a majority decision perhaps |
It already costs more credit to invite them if someone in the Federation really dislikes them, so that's already accounted for. It takes a lot of clout to get them in if there's opposition, I guess. |
Yes well I'm envisioning a system where something like a Federation Senate exists, and they vote on lots of issues and the player has options to manipulate each race's vote and the eventual outcome. |
There could be a a Federation HQ building built on the home-world of the race that starts the federation. That building could be targeted by anti-feds. Fed Senate could vote to move the HQ to another home world (it's desirable and prestigious to have this honor). For UI purposes there would be a "Federation" icon on the solar map (similar to black market) that the player would click to access the Federation Government screens. |
I'm pro anything that makes the Federation more interesting. Every game when I form it I can pretty safely sit on a random planet aiding ship construction and fast forward through all other races getting killed dead. |
